Managed Futures

Security Futures

More Opportunities to Participate in the Equity Markets
Security futures are futures on individual stocks and narrow-based indexes. They introduce new ways to implement investment and trading decisions. As examples:

Hedge funds can utilize security futures to accomplish "market neutral" objectives with transparency and administrative ease
Pension funds can replace long stock holdings with long single stock futures positions for capital efficiency
Individual investors may find pricing advantages and no uptick restrictions for short sales of stock
Narrow-based index futures should add flexibility to the fast growing "basket trading" marketplace

The new market of security futures should provide operational efficiencies, increase the transparency and lower the credit risks in the US equity marketplace. Ultimately, we think that security futures will enhance the liquidity of other equity-related markets including equity options, equity swaps and the stock loan business.

Securities in accounts carried by National Financial Services LLC ("NFS"), a Fidelity Investments company, are protected by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation ("SIPC") up to $500,000 (including cash claims limited to $100,000). NFS has arranged for additional insurance protection for cash and securities to supplement its SIPC coverage. This additional protection covers total account net equity in excess of the $500,000/$100,000 coverage provided by SIPC. Neither coverage protects against a decline in the market value of securities.

The risk of loss in trading futures and options can be substantial; therefore only genuine "risk" funds should be used in such trading. Futures and options may not be a suitable investment for all individuals should carefully consider their financial condition in deciding whether to trade. Option traders should be aware that the exercise of a long option would result in a futures position.
